About
Our blood cancer service offers specialist care for all malignant blood diseases including acute and chronic leukaemias, lymphoma, myelodysplasia, myeloproliferative disorders and myeloma. We have a world-renowned stem cell transplant unit, specialising in transplantation for bone marrow failure, acute leukaemia, myeloma, lymphomas and solid tumours.
In 1975 we became one of the first hospitals in Europe to perform allogeneic stem cell transplant (when stem cells are transferred from one person to another) and remain one of the largest and most experienced centres worldwide. Our programme is one of the largest and most innovative in Europe, and is supported by a state-of-the-art facility for cell collection and manipulation. We are accredited by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA), the Joint Accreditation Committee of ISCT and EBMT (JACIE) and the Medicines and Health Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Additional information
Clinical trials and research
We actively participate in clinical trials, trying to bring the newest treatments to our patients in the safest possible way. For many years we have been leaders in drug development in leukaemia, particularly in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) and more recently in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), myeloproliferative disorders (MPD) and myeloma. The clinical trials unit is currently based in the Catherine Lewis Centre and employs dedicated research nurses and trial co-ordinators. Our research colleagues obtain support for their work from the world’s leading funders of research, including the European Union, the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK, Bloodwise (previously Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research), Gabrielle’s Angels, Kay Kendall Research Foundation, the British Society of Haematology and the Blood Fund at Imperial Health Charity. We are a designated Bloodwise Centre of Excellence.
