This page includes useful information about each of our wards at Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital, including: visiting times, protected meal times, contact details and simple directions.

The birth centre, Lewis antenatal suite and maternity triage are accessible via the Hammersmith Hospital main entrance. They are not accessible from the Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea main entrance.

How to find us

Enter Hammersmith Hospital via the main entrance. You will see a reception area and a shop on your right and a café on your left. Continue until you reach a door, and then turn left onto the south wing corridor. There will be signs directing you to D block. Walk straight down the main corridor. You will see the lifts to your left. Take the lift to the first floor.

Maximum number of visitors per bedside:Two

In labour: 2 people permitted as support when in labour 24/7 (no swapping)

Postnatal: 1 support person 24/7 (no swapping). During visiting time (4-7pm) maximum of 2 adults at the bedside and the newborn’s siblings.

Protected meal times: Breakfast, 8am to 9am, lunch, 12pm to 1pm and dinner, 6pm to 7pm

Facilities: Double beds are provided to allow partners to stay overnight, Wi-Fi

Edith Dare ward

How to find us

Enter the hospital via the main entrance. Go straight ahead past the reception desk to the end of the corridor. Take the lift to your right, or the stairs that are signposted next to the ultrasound department on your left, to the first floor.

Patient age group: Adults and children

Maximum number of adults visitors per bedside: Two

Visiting times: 4pm to 7pm

You can have two named birth partners / support people. Of your two named support people, one person can stay on the ward 24 hours. Swapping between the two named people is permitted. We ask that you minimise leaving and re-entering the ward between 8pm and 8am.

A second adult visitor can visit daily during the visiting hours of 4-7pm, children and siblings of the newborn can also visit during this time.

Protected meal times: Breakfast 8am, lunch 12:30pm and dinner 5pm
 
Facilities: Kitchenette with microwave for heating meals, breastfeeding room, sitting room, a limited number of amenity rooms subject to availability, Wi-Fi

Labour Ward

How to find us

Enter the hospital via the main entrance, and walk past the antenatal clinic on your left. Turn right and you will see a set of lifts on your right. Take the lift to the third floor, the suite is clearly sign posted.

If you would prefer to use the stairs, walk past the lift on the ground floor, and go through a set of double doors. You will see a second door which leads to a staircase. Continue up the stairs until you reach the third floor.

Visiting times: 9am to 7pm, two birth partners (no swapping)

Maximum number of visitors per bedside: In labour rooms, you can have a maximum of two support people at all times, with no swapping allowed. In all other areas (theatre, recovery, high dependency), you can have one support person unless medically advised otherwise, and no swapping is allowed.

Protected meal times: Breakfast at 8:30am

Sandwiches are served when you are ready to eat and hot meals can be obtained if your stay is extended

Lewis Suite Antenatal Ward

How to find us

Enter Hammersmith Hospital via the main entrance. You will see a reception area and a shop on your right and a café on your left. Continue until you reach a door, and then turn left onto the south wing corridor. There will be signs directing you to D block. Walk straight down the main corridor. You will see the lifts to your left. Take the lift to the third floor and exit to your left. Lewis suite will be facing you.

Patient age group: Adults

Maximum number of visitors per bedside: Two (you can have one birth partner from 9am to 7pm (no swapping) - (those in labour are permitted to have one birth partner 24 hours)

Visiting times: 4pm to 7pm, a second adult can visit during these visiting hours. Children are not permitted at any time. 

Protected meal times: Breakfast 8am, lunch 12:30pm, dinner 5:30pm

How to find us

Enter the Hammersmith Hospital via the main entrance. You will see a reception area and a shop on your right and a café on your left. Continue until you reach a door, and then turn left onto the south corridor, Zone C. There will be signs directing you to Zone D. Walk straight down the main corridor, it is the last department on your right.

Neonatal unit

Enter the hospital via the main entrance, and walk past the antenatal clinic on your left. Turn right and you will see a set of lifts. Take the lift to the fourth floor, the unit is clearly sign posted. 

If you would prefer to use the stairs, walk past the lift on the ground floor, and go through a set of double doors. You will see a second door which leads to a staircase. Continue up the stairs until you reach the fourth floor.

Visiting times: 24/7 for parents, 3pm to 8pm for others

Maximum number of visitors per bedside:

  • From October, parents only

  • From March, two visitors at cotside, and only four named visitors for the duration of the hospital stay 

  • Other visitors must be accompanied by the baby’s parent. Brothers or sisters of the baby can only visit once a week
