Travel
You are advised to avoid all overseas travel for one year after the transplant. When you do travel, seek advice from the travel clinic at your GP surgery or an independent travel clinic at least two months before you go away.
You will not be able to have any live vaccines due to your immunosuppression (see vaccines section). You may be advised to take malaria tablets. The dose or choice of medicine may have to be adjusted according to how well your transplant is working and any other medicines you are taking.
You should check the advice for every trip you take in case recommendations change. See the Kidney Care UK website for advice on travel medicines and advice on travel insurance. It is important to have adequate insurance. This is likely to be more expensive than standard travel insurance, so take this into account when budgeting.
