Using the NHS App
The NHS App is a free and secure way for patients to access a range of NHS services. The tool can be accessed via the web too, so a smartphone or tablet is not essential – you can use any computer or device with internet access.
Services include:
- access to your upcoming hospital appointment letters. Please note, this does not include diagnostic appointment letters including blood test and imaging appointments.
- our hospital’s average waiting times for outpatient appointments and treatments, and the date you were referred to our hospital
- both your hospital and GP medical records in one place, this includes details of past test results, and hospital outcome letters
- some patients can order repeat GP prescriptions and choose a pharmacy for pick up, or delivery of medication. Please note, this does not include hospital prescriptions.
- access to a symptom checker tool, which provides trusted information and advice on how to manage symptoms or conditions.
- organ donation preferences. You need to register on the app to set your preferences.
- If you have a universal care plan, you can view it on the app, by selecting My Health > My care plan.
How to access the NHS App
The NHS app is available on both iOS and Android platforms. The app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. If you do not have a mobile device, you can still access the services through the NHS website.
You will need to complete a registration process. You will need to verify your identity using photo ID (such as a passport or driver's license) and record a short video.
The app will automatically link to your NHS record, so that you can view GP and hospital information securely.

Frequently asked questions
Who can use the NHS APP?
To use the NHS App, you must be aged 13 or over and registered with a GP surgery in England. Young people aged 13 to 15 will need to contact their GP surgery and request access to GP online services before they can use the NHS App.
Can all patients view their clinical records on the NHS app?
It depends on whether their GP practice has selected a system linked to the NHS app to provide access to hospital records for their patients. All GP practices in North West London have done this, as have those in North Central London and North East London.
