Children's infectious diseases patient information
Find out what to expect when you come to hospital for your child's infectious diseases appointment.
Before your appointment
We usually see patients within four weeks of referral, depending on the urgency of their referral.
You, or a family member, should attend all appointments with your child if they are under the age of 16.
Please bring any current medications and a list of any questions you have for the team to the appointment.
During your appointment
When you arrive please check-in at reception in paediatric outpatients on the sixth floor of the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother (QEQM) building.
Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so medical students may be present for some appointments. If you do not wish to have them in the room please let the nurse or doctor know and the students will be asked to step outside.
If this is your first appointment it will likely last between 45 to 60 minutes.
During your appointment we will ask you and your child about the problem. Your child will be examined, the findings will be discussed with you and a treatment plan will be made.
After your appointment
We will be in touch soon after your appointment to discuss any results and follow-up appointments will be made if required.
