Rheumatology patient information
Find out what to expect when you come to hospital for your appointment.
Before your appointment
We aim to see our patients within six weeks of referral. If you have copies of preview medical letters or test results, please bring these to your consultation.
During your appointment
Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so medical students may be present for some appointments. If you do not wish to have them in the room please let the nurse or doctor know and the students will be asked to step outside.
At your first appointment you will see one of our rheumatology doctors. A detailed history of your symptoms will be taken and the necessary investigations will be coordinated to establish a diagnosis and provide treatment to you as soon as possible. Tests typically include a blood test and x-rays.
After your appointment
After every appointment we send a letter to your general practitioner and other medical professionals involved in your treatment. We routinely copy these letters to you. We expect our letters to reach you within one week of your appointment.
