Maternity listening service
Our maternity listening service gives you a chance to speak to a clinician to better understand your labour, the birth of your baby and your postnatal care. It is available to anyone who has given birth at Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea or St Mary’s hospitals.
During your listening service appointment, the midwife or doctor will review your notes with you as well as the timeline of your labour and delivery. Based on your records and your experience, we may offer advice for any future pregnancy or birth. We can also signpost or refer you to further services if you feel you need additional support.
This is not a formal counselling service. It is an information sharing service that offers an opportunity to reflect on your birth experience with our maternity staff.
Using the maternity listening service
Your appointment with the listening service will take place at least six weeks after you gave birth. This gives you time to recover from your labour, get to know your baby, and reflect on your birth experience.
You are welcome to have a support person join you for your appointment.
Please let us know if you would like to come to hospital for your maternity listening service appointment. We can also offer appointments via phone or video call.
