We offer a professional development programme for local GPs to help improve patient care and foster closer working relationships between our consultants and primary care professionals.

We offer a professional development programme for local GPs to help improve patient care and foster closer working relationships between our consultants and primary care professionals.

Study events 

The main focus of our GP professional development programme are bi-monthly GP study afternoons. These are free events run by consultants at the Trust focused on specific clinical specialities. Previous GP study afternoons have covered specialities such as gynaecology, bariatric surgery and trauma.

Study afternoons provide the opportunity for:

• Consultants to update GPs on new developments in clinical practice within their speciality
• GPs to have an opportunity to ask questions about individual specialties and receive support on how to make appropriate referrals
• Both consultants and GPs to form supportive relationships.

Each study afternoon consists of four to five sessions or workshops and typically run from 13.00 to 16.30. GPs can gain three CPD points for every study afternoon they attend.

GP outreach education 

We understand that it is not always possible for GPs to take time out of a busy working schedule to come to a study event. We have set up an outreach programme so our clinicians can visit and deliver training on various topics at local GP practices. The sessions provide an opportunity for professionals to share knowledge and expertise, and also develop a good working relationship.
