New outpatient facilities for cancer patients at Hammersmith Hospital
We are really proud to have opened a new outpatients department at Hammersmith Hospital for oncology (cancer) patients, following a £2.9m investment from the Trust’s annual capital allocation.
This is the latest part of our wider estates investment plan and will provide a more comfortable environment for patients and staff alike. The new location will also allow us to expand, meaning we can see more patients and also offer more cutting edge treatments and trials, like this trial of a new therapy for cancer.
We expect it will also free up capacity in haematology, which until now shared a location with oncology outpatients.
The new and fully refurbished department is located on the ground floor of Hammersmith Hospital (Zone C), in what used to be the vaccination centre and stored medical records before that. The space has been completely transformed by Ansell & Bailey architects, with lead designer Georgia Burt bringing nature into the space with floral motifs in each area, many of which used in drugs treating chemotherapy and medicine.
General manager for oncology and palliative care, Harry Monaghan, shared a few wards with us on the new department and what it means for our teams.
“Who would’ve thought that this fantastic new bespoke space, designed around the needs of our patients and staff, was once a medical records archive?
“Huge thanks to everyone who has contributed to the project and made this possible. This includes the core project and design teams of course, who have done an excellent job getting it over the line, alongside the wonderful support we’ve had for this from the entire Trust community. It’s brilliant that we finally have a centre that matches our staff members’ expertise and commitment to compassionate patient care – enabling us to see more patients and offer more cutting edge treatments.
”It’s also exciting to see that an area that once safeguarded the records of the past will now be used to deliver the latest innovative treatments, in partnership with Imperial College London, to our patients across north west London and beyond”
