Have your say on the design of a new centre at St Mary’s Hospital

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) are seeking feedback on designs for a new research and public engagement facility at St Mary’s Hospital, as part of a design competition launched in July.

The Fleming Centre is part of the wider Fleming Initiative, established jointly by Imperial College Healthcare and Imperial College London to find solutions to antimicrobial resistance at a global scale. It will provide a space to bring together researchers, policymakers, clinicians, behavioural experts, commercial partners and the public to combine their shared networks, expertise and skills in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

The Centre will be the first new building in the planned full redevelopment of St Mary’s Hospital, part of the government’s New Hospital Programme. It is due to open in 2028, marking 100 years since the discovery of penicillin at St Mary’s by Sir Alexander Fleming.

Patients, the public and members of staff are invited to an exhibition showcasing the five shortlisted designs and to offer feedback and views that will assist the partners in making a decision on which architects to appoint.

The drop-in exhibition will take place on the proposed site of the Fleming Centre – the Bays, off South Wharf Road, St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington – at the following times:

  • Tuesday 26 November,12.00-19.00
  • Wednesday 27 November, 11.00-19.00
  • Thursday 28 November from 11.00-19.00.
