Our plans for Western Eye
The Western Eye Hospital is an ageing building in real need of repair. There is strong consensus that the Western Eye needs to be co-located with other services, including a general A&E, to improve safety and patient experience. We originally proposed that the Western Eye’s services should be included in the redevelopment of the St Mary’s estate but, as that was some years ago, we need to review which site would now be best for re-location in collaboration with our health and care partners, patients and local community.
The Western Eye building – as well as that of the former Samaritan Hospital next door – would then be surplus to need and we would plan to use the land to help fund the other redevelopments.
