Paddington Life Sciences aims to improve health and reduce inequalities by connecting communities, researchers, clinicians and industry, centred around St Mary’s Hospital, to bring health innovation to life.
ABOUT US
Paddington Life Sciences is a thriving hub of life sciences businesses centered around St Mary’s Hospital, driving collaboration across the NHS, technology, and pharmaceutical sectors to advance translational research and access to healthcare innovation for our patients, staff and communities.

St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, one of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust’s major research and teaching hospitals, has been treating patients and making healthcare breakthroughs since 1845.
Today, St Mary’s sits at the heart of a growing innovation community in Paddington, ideally positioned to contribute to the shared vision of establishing the UK as a life sciences powerhouse. The life sciences sector is central to the government’s mission for economic growth and building an NHS fit for the future.
In June 2023, we launched Paddington Life Sciences – a life sciences cluster bringing together communities, researchers, clinicians, and industry.
Together, we have a huge amount of experience and expertise to innovate at scale. By joining forces, it allows us to generate health, economic and social value for local, national and global impact.
Research and innovation are fundamental to the clinical excellence for which our hospitals are renowned. We are now entering a new era of discovery, at an even more ambitious scale, by maximising the potential of our existing work areas and joining them up with new opportunities. Our wide-ranging partnerships are intended to improve not just healthcare but also health and wellbeing, creating synergies that will boost local education, skills development and employment opportunities.

Alongside co-locating the hospital with more commercial and academic teams, within new specialist life sciences facilities, Paddington Life Sciences will enable us to bring new diagnostics and treatments to patients faster as well as give more people the chance to get involved in clinical trials for local, national, and global benefit.
With the new St Mary’s at its heart Paddington Life Sciences will put people first, bringing clinicians, researchers and our diverse north west London population of 2.4 million people together to create a critical mass of life sciences discovery and application on a scale not yet seen in the NHS. It will build on the global impact of our established life sciences track record, with the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre, a collaboration with Imperial College London, as the engine room, and enhanced by our commercial partnerships. And through co-location it will create connections that count across multiple clinical, academic and industry disciplines.
