Background

Dr Michael Koa-Wing is a consultant cardiologist at Hammersmith Hospital. He is trained in all aspects of general cardiology, including the management of chest pain, heart failure and palpitations and has a major subspecialist interest in arrhythmias (heart rhythm disorders) and implantable cardiac devices. He performs catheter ablation for all arrhythmias, including supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. He also implants pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation devices and is an accredited cardiac device specialist.

Dr Koa-Wing graduated from Guy's, King's and St. Thomas' Medical School with distinctions, having already received an intercalated BSc in pharmacology. He undertook his postgraduate training in London, spending time in Watford, St Mary's and Hammersmith hospitals. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and has a PhD in cardiac electrophysiology from Imperial College, London. His research findings have resulted in a major multicentre clinical trial in ventricular tachycardia ablation as well as the development and investigation of a novel 3D mapping system for ablation of complex arrhythmias. He continues to pursue his research interests at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
