Background

Ms Mariana Bertoncelli Tanaka is a consultant urologist, with special interest in prostate cancer diagnostics, focal therapy and robotic prostatectomy. She has graduated in 2012 at State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil, where she also completed her general urology training in 2017. Subsequently, she completed both Focal Therapy and Robotic Prostatectomy Fellowships at Charing Cross Hospital. Her expertise also includes prostate surgery for benign prostate disease.

She has a strong commitment to education and training, including not only surgical trainees but the whole healthcare team. This allows her to work particularly well within an MDT and provide the best possible care for her patients. Her research interests include prostate cancer investigation and management (including active surveillance) and minimally invasive surgery for benign prostate enlargement. She is also member of the Research Ethics Committe.
