Trust staff recognised at Advancing Healthcare Awards
Congratulations to Emma Walker and Joe Maslen on their success at the recent Advancing Healthcare Awards (AHA), on Friday 21 April.
Emma, Trust lead healthcare scientist, won the Academy for Healthcare Science Award for Leadership in Healthcare Science and Joe, Apprentice radiotherapy assistance practitioner at Charing Cross Hospital, received the Rising Star Award.
The annual awards recognise and celebrate the work of allied health professionals, healthcare scientists and those who work alongside them in support roles, leading innovative healthcare practice across the UK.
On Emma’s award, AHA said: "Emma believes in the positive impact that healthcare scientists can make, given a platform and a voice, and has demonstrated the organisational and patients safety benefits of having healthcare scientists at the top levels of an organisation. She acts as a focus for the application of science across the Trust to improve patient care, ensuring the adoption of cost-effective practice and innovative technology in scientific services. She leads a community of 1,200 healthcare scientists at Imperial and is a mentor for trusts across London and the wider system."
In relation to Joe's Rising Star Award, AHA said: "Since day one, Joe has excelled in his role. He is extremely motivated to both develop professionally, as well as wanting to support service development and improve the patient and staff experience. Joe brings fresh ideas and passion in everything he does, putting the patient at the centre to improve outcomes."
Joe said: "My passion for my work is to be innovative and change the way things are done positively. I'm most happy when my work can make a difference and promote forward thinking. I'm grateful for this recognition, I hope it inspires others to not be scared to push boundaries and to show what can be achieved when doing something with no prior experience of qualifications in that area."
Joe was also recently named as a finalist for the national Our Health Heroes Awards, delivered by Skills for Health. The winners will be announced at a special ceremony on 7 June. You can take part in the vote on the Skills for Health website.
