Primark donates essential clothing to support patients experiencing homelessness
People experiencing homelessness who visit the emergency departments at our hospitals have been receiving vital support thanks to a generous clothing donation from Primark.
The retailer has provided essential items - including t-shirts, hoodies, trousers, jackets, underwear, and footwear - to help ensure vulnerable patients have access to clean, warm clothing when they leave after receiving medical care.
The donation has been shared between our emergency departments at St Mary’s Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital. So far, the essential items have benefited patients through the winter months and there will be enough items to continue well into spring.
Many individuals arrive at our emergency departments with few personal belongings and this contribution will help provide dignity and comfort during a difficult time.
Dr Peter Greengross, consultant in public health at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, said:
“Our emergency departments are not just a place for urgent medical care, they can also be a safety net for those who are particularly vulnerable and this incredibly generous donation from Primark has been making a real difference to people experiencing homelessness who come to us for help.
“Our teams are always looking to improve the care given to our homeless patients and this includes work with external organisations and health and social care partners to ensure patients have the support they need while in our care and once they leave our hospitals.”
Philippa Nibbs, director of sales for London and South East at Primark said:
"I’m really proud that we have donated Primark clothes to St Mary’s and Charing Cross Hospitals, to support their patient’s experiencing homelessness.
“We care about our local communities, and we hope this small gesture goes some way towards making their lives a little easier.”
