Update: Incident at St Mary's Hospital site on 1 May

Update at 5.30pm, Friday 2 May: We have fully returned to normal operations following a small fire at St Mary's Hospital on Thursday 1 May. Work is continuing to understand the cause of the fire and review how it was managed, so we can ensure safety across our site and make any improvements needed.
The fire broke out in a linen room on the ground floor of the Clarence/Cambridge building. We evacuated patients, staff and visitors from three nearby wards that were affected by smoke and temporarily moved them to other areas of our site. London Fire Brigade quickly extinguished the fire and no one was hurt. Most services - including A&E - continued to run as normal and the three wards have reopened.
We’re very sorry for the disruption and concern the fire has caused, and we’re hugely grateful to everyone involved for their support and patience.

If you have family or friends on the wards affected (Lewis Lloyd, Lillian Holland and Rodney Porter) and have any queries or concerns, please contact our PALS team. You can call PALS on 020 3312 7777 or email imperial.PALS@nhs.net from 10.00 to 16.00, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays). For enquiries outside this time, please contact our switchboard: 020 3311 3311.

St Mary’s hospital director Karen Powell said: “I’d like to thank all our staff involved in responding to this incident – they did a fantastic job caring for patients in very challenging circumstances. We are also very grateful to London Fire Brigade and to our patients and visitors for their understanding."
