Imperial Health Charity launches Winter Appeal supporting our children's A&E
Imperial Health Charity has today launched its annual winter fundraising appeal, which will help us provide extra support for young patients at our children’s A&E department.
Donations from members of the public will go towards interactive games and resources specially designed to reduce feelings of distress and anxiety for children in need of urgent care and treatment. Funds raised through the appeal will also help us make improvements to the waiting room area, creating extra space for young patients and their families.
These important additions will have a big impact for children, putting their minds at ease and helping them reconnect with play and adventure.
Our charity raises funds throughout the year to provide additional support to a wide range of wards, departments, and services across all our hospitals. This extra support helps us improve our buildings and facilities, drive forward pioneering research, and purchase advanced medical equipment.
Donations to the charity’s Winter Appeal could help us provide even better support for children like Alfie. He’s six years old and struggles with his breathing because of a respiratory condition. Alfie often feels frightened and distressed in unfamiliar surroundings and sometimes gets anxious around the medical equipment.
“We know that simple improvements, such as special lights on our ceiling tiles, would make things so much better for children like Alfie,” said Louise Sutherland, a Health Play Specialist at our children’s A&E. “The colourful pictures and dimmed lighting would create a far more calming atmosphere and really help him to relax while he receives treatment.”
Donations to the charity’s Winter Appeal could help us:
- transform the children’s A&E waiting room into a more comfortable environment
- reduce feelings of anxiety and distress while children receive care
- improve the play resources available for children while they wait for treatment.
