Finalists at HSJ Digital Awards

Imperial College Healthcare has been shortlisted for five HSJ Digital Awards, with the winners set to be announced in June.

This includes nominations for the Trust’s innovative use of AI, efforts to improve equality, diversity and inclusion in ICT and success in improving use of our electronic patient record system. Well done to all the teams and individuals involved, including James Bird, our chief nurse information officer, who is up for Digital Leader of the Year.

The awards celebrate the organisations, teams, and individuals leading the way in improving care delivery and achieving better outcomes for patients through innovative digital projects.

The winners of the HSJ Partnership Awards have also been announced this week. An initiaitive led by West London Children's Healthcare (the integrated children's services of Imperial College Healthcare and Chelsea and Westminster), Dosium and British National Formulary (Pharmaceutical Press) was highly commended in the most effective contribution to clinical redesign category.

Driving change through AI and innovation award - Imperial College Healthcare

  • Artificial Intelligence in radiotherapy - use of deep learning auto-contouring in the treatment of cancer patients.

Improving medicines management and pharmacy through digital award - Northwest London Acute Provider Collaborative

  • Therapeutic duplicate prescribing alerts for analgesia and anticoagulants – this initiative ensures that alerts in the electronic patient record system display exactly (only when and where needed) to help prevent duplicate prescribing.

Digital leader of the year award - James Bird, chief nurse information officer at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare

  • James was nominated for his constant desire to make electronic patient records meet the needs of clinical teams – and the significant impact his work at local and national level.

Digital literacy, education and upskilling award - Imperial College Healthcare

  • The impact of digital education at the elbow - an innovative data-driven education approach that has significantly increased adoption of the electronic patient record by nursing staff.

Digital equality, diversity and inclusion award - Imperial College Healthcare

  • EDI Improvement Project - delivering innovative interventions that are shifting the culture of the ICT directorate and introducing changes to policy and practice.

  • Transforming prescribing safety by putting the British National Formulary at the heart of clinical decision support with dosium.
