World Patient Safety Day is on Thursday 14 September 2023. Join our virtual event - Elevating Patient Voices
To mark World Patient Safety Day, the Trust is co-hosting an event with the Institute of Global Health Innovation (IGHI) at Imperial College on Thursday 14 September. The event has also been co-designed with patient representatives and will focus on the importance of patients engaging in patient safety, the theme of this year’s event.
Patients and members of the public are invited to attend the online session which will take place between 11am and 1pm. Register your place on Eventbrite.
World Patient Safety Day is led by the World Health Organization and this year aims to bring together the patient safety community to raise global awareness of the need for active engagement of patients in their safety. Involving patients and their loved ones in improving safety of care is a national NHS strategic priority, and also part of our own 2023 safety strategy. Patients and the public play a key role and should not only be able to advocate for their safety but also have their voices elevated. The Trust has recently recruited six Patient Safety Partners who are supporting this work.
What to expect during the event
Our online event has been co-designed with valuable input from patient representatives from the NIHR North West London Patient Safety Research Collaboration’s Research Partners Group as well as the Trust’s newly appointed Patient Safety Partners.
Expert patient advocates, researchers and healthcare professionals will discuss how patients and families can be engaged at all stages of care and will also explore ways to reduce inequalities and empower underserved communities, both nationally and globally.
The virtual event will take place on Microsoft Teams Live, offering opportunities for attendee interaction through Q&A sessions and discussions. Through joining the session, you can expect to take part in insightful conversations among patients, families, researchers and healthcare professionals, with the view to empower patients and enhance patient engagement in the health system and ultimately improve health outcomes.
The full programme, including a list of speakers, will be made available very soon.
